Who am I?

My name is Samantha Thomas — Sam for short.

I am a former math instructor that took the leap into UX/UI Design! While I loved my years teaching math, I was hungry for a career change where I could utilize my analytical and problem-solving skills with my creativity and experience with art, leading me to take UX/UI Design classes in 2020.

With the pandemic, I experienced the challenges of online education from both the student and teacher perspectives. Coupled with my new knowledge of UX/UI Design, I was able to find my true passion — reform the online education experience.

What’s my background?

Before teaching math, I was able to experience the web design world with a 4-year internship at Brightspot (formerly Perfect Sense), where I was introduced to the process of redesigning websites. Although I primarily focused on content management, I was interested in Product Management and Design. Desiring to learn more, I enrolled in the UX/UI Bootcamp at The George Washington University, where for 24 weeks, I learned how to design and had hands-on experience with the process of designing apps and websites.

What am I looking for?

I am always looking to learn something new! Being a specialist, when I encounter something I don't know or am unfamiliar with, I am driven to learn about it and become a master. Having a background in math, I am a natural problem solver who thrives in finding answers to complex problems. I always look for opportunities to use my mixed backgrounds in art and math to apply creativity to problem-solving methods, and I have found that UX/UI Design is an ideal platform to utilize my skills.

What else do I do?

In my free time, I can be found working on various art projects! I do it all — paint, draw, embroidery, you name it.
